Take the “perfect” out of it, we all know there’s no such thing as perfect, but we have made a list just for you so that you can ensure you’re on your way to doing all the right things to make it special for you and your fiancé to be.
Speak with her family.
One of the most important things is to make sure you consult with the family, it may seem old fashioned but sometimes even having a chat with his or her family might lead you in the right direction. Who knows they might even support you with great ideas on what they may have dreamt up of since they were little. It is also considered respectful to involve the family, while you’re both grown-ups, getting the family’s blessing also shows that you are both mature enough to take into consideration the family’s thoughts on getting married.
Talk to her best friends.
Her best friends will know all the secrets, the dos and the don’ts. They might give you awesome ideas on the favorite ring type they like and what makes up a special and romantic setting for the proposal.
Select the perfect ring.
When you’re already considering proposing, they have thought about it more times than you can imagine, which means, she/he has been dropping subtle hints, make sure you’re paying attention. Check their “likes” on social media, assess the type of jewellery they already wear, take note, is it large or petite and simple, is it bold or somewhere in between? These are all good ways to start making sure you’re on the right track, again get the family and best friend involved, they may also have a great idea on what he/she likes.
Note: If you are in Sydney, check out this post about where to shop for engagement rings in Sydney.
Select the perfect place to propose.
Now that you have selected the perfect ring, it’s time to decide where it will all take place. While there are many cliché locations it is also important to be mindful that you are selecting a place that will be of importance and memorable to both of you, as an example don’t go for horseback riding by the beach if your partner is terrified of horses or the beach. Make sure it’s somewhere that you both feel comfortable and is also going to mean something for you for many years to come as this will be an important part of telling your story, everyone always asks “So, how did you propose?” make sure it’s a story you can tell your children someday too.
Speak from your heart.
Be you and speak from the heart, it can be difficult to know the right things to say, sometimes we get caught up in saying as many sweet romantic things as possible but if it doesn’t come natural and doesn’t speak true to how you feel it will show and the proposal may not come across as intended. You don’t have to go to elaborate lengths, sometimes it’s the most simple of things that pull on the heartstrings. You know your partner the best and especially leading up to your proposal, pay attention and remember all the reasons you fell in love with that person and all the reasons why you can’t imagine living a life without them in yours, after all, that’s what this is all about.
